OK, back to podcasts with issue #28, discussing Black Panther back then…

The cover is a reference to The Fantastic Four – it’s even the font that was used for the Fantastic Four back when Black Panther was first introduce into the Marvel Universe comics…

Black Panther was an incredible movie… and it’s a shame the world did not get to keep Chadwick Boseman longer… as he would pass, unexpectedly (to the world). Unfortunately, for myself, the “sequel” Wakanda Forever did not hold up – it was missing something. And I am not saying it was missing Chadwick – but there was something definitely missing in the movie – some … chemistry or something. But the original Black Panther movie was down right incredible…

WonderCon 2017, remembering…

Me, Matt (back seat), Chuck
Matt got art signed from an artist he really liked – name is totally escaping me at the moment…
I bought some Wolverine claws… real metal and real sharp.
Anyone else watch the original Clash of the Titans? Know who that is on my shoulder I bought? (Last one too)
Ran into Joie Brown there too

I miss going to the Cons with these two….

Remembering San Diego Comic Con 2017… and getting X-Treme.

So I’d only ever had the good grace of seeing Fabian Nicieza once – and I mean, this way back in the 1990s, when he was writing New Warriors (just another site I run…). I was such a fan when I saw Fabian, at his booth, I was too star struck. I felt like, back then, I’d just fumble over my words. So I actually didn’t approach him.

Not the case when I saw him in 2017. As a matter of fact, when I heard he’d be at San Diego Comic Con – I loaded up my backpack with only New Warriors comics – and one other comic – X-Force Annual #2. And then I carried a poster in a holder around, until he was finally at his booth signing. I immediately approached him and told him to tell me if this was too much – as I broke out a pile of New Warriors, X-Force Annual #2, my New Warriors poster, and – the big surprise – original art from Captain Marvel that featured Adam-X. If you’ve listed to any of the podcasts on here you know my love of Adam-X.

He signed it all – and we talked the entire time – he was shocked that I had no Deadpool comics, for which he was truly getting to be known for due to the movie’s success. But I wasn’t there to get things signed that were “in” – I wanted books I cared about, a poster I cared about, and the original art from the Captain Marvel book. (Side Note – Captain Marvel back then was not Carol Danvers, but rather Genis Vell, the son of Mar Vell, the original Captain Marvel)

By the Power of PowerCon 2017… and ending up on Netflix?

I didn’t know this – but because of attending this, I would eventually land in an episode of The Toys that Made Us – He-Man episode for a brief moment. Turns out, when I asked the folks to snap this picture…

Jack Wadsworth, myself, Leslie Wadsworth

Jack and Leslie Wadsworth were He-Man and She-Ra, respectively (obviously) in the live action, touring, Power Tour that was in arenas.

I was going around collecting anyone who had any significant role in He-Man (whether the cartoon, comics, Power Tour, etc)

PowerCon is where I used to always spend the most money. (Side note – Might be a good thing that they’ve relocated to Utah, I believe it is…)

Sometimes, you just can’t release your childhood…

Back to the movies in issue 27 with Old Man Logan…

In this episode, we went over quite a few movies, to make up for the times they’ve not podcasted! So in this episode, they cover Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Wonder Woman and Spider-Man: Homecoming. They also continue down the list of their “Favorite X’s” – and by that, we mean X-Men (well, there’s plenty of X-Women in there too) – and not as in men or women we dated – more like the X-Men characters from Marvel’s X-Men books. (This is getting far more complicated than it needs to be, and I swear we’re comfortable in our sexuality…) So the list is from those that joined the X-Men in the 2000-era of the X-Books. It’s a pretty long list, and we agree on some things, while we strongly disagree on others!

Because we had some catching up to do – it’s a bit of a length episode, weighing in at – I think one of our longest podcasts to date – an hour and 42 minutes! (Originally, the recording had been 4 hours and 7 minutes long! So a lot ended up on the chopping floor for the sake of your sanity!) Please give it a listen – and if you have iTunes, please take the time to rate us on there and leave a comment or two (or three or four). Please tell others about us – word of mouth is gold in convincing others to give something a swing!

Back at free comic book day (2017) for issue 26…

Amiee takes Maico’s place since he couldn’t make it
Supporting Chad Cavanaugh with this sign

Unfortunately, my partner in crime, Mighty Maico Moreno was off traveling the world. So I recruited my amazing wife, Astonishing Amiee Logue, to come co-host the podcast with me! We discuss Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and our thoughts, some Iron Fist, talk to Ryan, Adrian, Christina, and Dexter about everything from comics, TV shows, movie, and Dexter breaks down some Robotech news.

It’s a lengthy podcast – standing at an hour and a half! Because the co-host being Amiee Logue, there’s a bit of silliness in there (I mean, who here wants to know about Southern Charmed or The Challenge – because, guess what, that gets mentioned to!) This is what happens when you’re married to the special co-host for 20 years. The plus side is, we can disagree – and we do – about things about Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Iron Fist. But let me shut up, and let you download the podcast! Enjoy the witty banter between my wife and I – while you listen to the podcast – stuck in traffic or where ever it is that you subject yourself to this dose of awesome!

ElfQuest Figures.

A recent Tweet I made about the ElfQuest figures were one of the few things decorating my desk recently –

As I mentioned in the tweet, I was so bummed that Series II of these figures which included Skywise, Gutterkraw, Madcoil and Rayek was never released. Someone replied saying only two prototypes were made – and I’d said I had a photo of the others from a Convention (I thought the Pinis were in the background, they were not) – but I found them and figured I’d post them here too:

Now I had thought (when I was searching for these photos) that Series I had already come out; but as you can see these were prototypes of all of the figures. As seen here, Cutter has brown hair (with a note that the hair color would be corrected). The Leetah out of the package has the red scarf, but the proto type in the case had a yellow one; Picknose had some minor changes in his expression (his face). Tyldak’s wings were different – the prototype it’s colored, where as the release has ridges.

But man, I would have loved to have seen the Series II figures released… would still love to.

Probably my favorite episode we ever did was 25…

Not only was this the first time we ever had a booth at a convention (San Diego Comic Fest), but we also scored a number of interviews that mean so much to me.

One of them was James Hudnall – Comic Book Writer – I knew James from his work on the Alpha Flight series. Unfortunately a few years later, James Hudnall passed away. While he was with us, he had spoken about some of his ongoing health issues. So the moment I got to have someone from a book that I immensely enjoyed (though, the previous writer had done a number on Alpha Flight – but Bill Mantlo had an unfortunate accident many years ago; and I enjoyed Bill’s stuff that he got to do without preexisting continuity – such as Micronauts and ROM).

James Hudnall, with Maico and myself

But what was also amazing was Julia & Eric of X-Men: The Animated Series. The X-Men animated series, I am pretty sure, what got this podcast started between Maico and I; because, yes, we discussed X-Men comics; a lot of our conversation before we started the podcast was talking about how well done the animated series was, and how, overall, it stuck pretty close to the comics.

Myself, Julie, Eric, Maico

After the Neal Adams interview, I thought I could handle anything… but I truly was a nervous wreck when we spoke to Eric & Julia – who were AS NICE as could be – but really, these two had a pretty profound impact on my childhood because of my love of the X-Men comics being translated so beautifully in the cartoon.

Venturing into WonderCon 2016, back then…

Literally one of the first people I saw – someone dressed as Dazzler, so I took this with her to send to my wife.
Matt, Chuck, Myself

It was with those two I was at WonderCon this year.

Joie Brown was there, so I snapped a photo with her.
Marc Silvestri is probably one of my favorite modern artists. He just draws characters very dramatically – probably the person whom I have the most autographs of.
Wrapping up the adventure…
